Scottsdale Newborn | Baby James
There is always an element of surprise in every newborn session. Not only is every baby different but every home is different and I love the challenge of maintain consistency in my work give these differences. Rarely do I add to this wonderful challenge by adding or trying new things because as the saying goes, "...if it ain't broke don't fix it." However, a more powerful viewpoint I like to live by is that challenging my self and trying new things, things that make me nervous or uncomfortable ( I wrote more about that HERE) are the BEST way for me to grow as a photographer. During Baby James's newborn session I tried not one by two new techniques and I'm so so glad I did!
I'm not sure what it was about Andra and Nick that made me feel so confident to try something new, it was probably their easy going nature and Andra's interest in hanging out with me throughout the shoot. Or maybe it was that extra cup of coffee that did it! Either way after we had finished up with the typical posed portion of the session I asked, "Do you mind if we try something I've never done before?" She looked at me, smiled and said, "Of course!" The picture below is the adorable picture that resulted!
Introducing the potato sack pose! Love, love, love it!! I then followed this up with my favorite wrapped poses and lifestyle shots. And as we were preparing to wrap up the session Andra showed me an inspiration picture and asked if I thought we could do it. At first that little voice of doubt crept in but I told it to go away, looked around the room and said, "Yes, lets move your couch away from this wall and give it a try!" After rearranging her furniture we unwrapped Baby James and as I gently placed him in his beautiful mother's arms he dozed of so happy to be close to her. And just as before pure magic!
I couldn't be happier with the result! I can't guarantee that this will work for all my future sessions but what I can say is that from now on I DO have the confidence to try new things. I will never stop improving for my clients. So watch out future clients because we just might be rearranging your entire house but I promise it will be worth it!!
Here are some more of my favorite images from the Shirilla family's newborn session I hope you love them as much as I do!
