Summer Reading List
Summer is upon us. We were spoiled here in AZ for quite a while but the 115 degree weather has finally arrived and for me there is no better way to escape this oven that we call home, then with a book.
I've always been an avid reader. I won a reading contest in 1st grade and to this day it is one of my proudest accomplishments :) And until recently I've been a purest when it comes to books, I shunned the idea of reading on my iPad or my iPhone because I love the way a book feels and smells. You can't get that experience on an iPad!! However, now that I have a toddler who insists on "reading" (more like destroying) my books I've started to favor the electronic/online book!
Here is a list of books I've read and LOVED in the last couple months, I highly recommend all of them!
I've realize that my taste in books is all over the place, but the common theme that all these books share is the main characters all seem to be escaping something. whether it's their problems, themselves, the nazi regime or a deadly maze the main character's are either hiking away, driving away, running away...You get the idea :)
These books are all great options if you read for the purpose of entertainment and a little Healthy escapism (are you sensing a trend??lol)
Next up for me is the third book in the century Trilogy by Ken Follett. These books are a masterfully written series following several influential families in America and Europe from the first world war through the 1990's. This series is historical Fiction so if you're like me and had a hard time staying awake during History class, you relearn certain important historical events throughout the fictional narrative making history much more captivating.
Great House by nicole Krauss is also on my list. This book is similar to the later in that it follows a writing desk through 25 years of various ownership, examining the secrets and private live of the people who sat at the desk. As if the desk is the "fly on the wall" of it's owner's lives. I'm super excited to crack into this one, hopefully Jack (my toddler) doesn't get to it first!
And yes I drink hot tea with my cookies in the summer...I say if it's good enough for the nomads who wander the hottest deserts on the planet it's good enough for me! :)
Buckley my ever faithful reading buddy:)
I hope this reading list has inspired you to pick up your iPad or maybe a real book and escape the oven that is our Arizona summer!
Thank you for stopping by!
